Towards more Challenging Problems for Ontology Matching Tools
We motivate the need for challenging problems in the evaluation of ontology matching tools. To address this need, we propose mapping sets between well-known biomedical ontologies that are based on the UMLS Metathesaurus. These mappings could be used as a basis for a new track in future OAEI campaigns (http://oaei.ontologymatching.org/).

Experiencing OptiqueVQS: A Multi-paradigm and Ontology-based Visual Query System for End Users

Particularly, in an enterprise setting, intuitive data access tools that directly engage domain experts with data could substantially increase competitiveness and profitability. In this respect, the use of ontologies as a natural communication medium between end users and computers has emerged as a prominent approach. To this end, this article introduces a novel ontology-based visual query system, named OptiqueVQS, for end users. OptiqueVQS is built on a powerful and scalable data access platform and has a user-centric design supported by a widget-based flexible and extensible architecture allowing multiple coordinated representation and interaction paradigms to be employed. The results of a usability experiment performed with non-expert users suggest that OptiqueVQS provides a decent level of expressivity and high usability and hence is quite promising
Knowledge graph embedding for ecotoxicological effect prediction
Exploring the effects of a chemical compound on a species takes a considerable experimental effort. Appropriate methods for estimating and suggesting new effects can dramatically reduce the work needed to be done by a laboratory. Here, we explore the suitability of using a knowledge graph embedding approach for ecotoxicological effect prediction. A knowledge graph has been constructed from publicly available data sets, including a species taxonomy and chemical knowledge. These knowledge sources are integrated by ontology alignment techniques. Changes in the crystalline degree in neutron irradiated EPDM viewed through infrared spectroscopy and inelastic neutron scattering
The changes in the degree of crystallinity in commercial Ethylene Propylene Diene rubber-type M (EPDM) irradiated with neutrons at different doses has been studied by means of inelastic neutron scattering and infrared absorption spectroscopy experiments. EPDM samples were taken from the housing of non-ceramic electrical insulators which are used in outdoor transmission lines of 66 kV. Inelastic neutron scattering spectra were recorded at 5 K with an accessible energy-transfer range between 180 - 3500 cm-1. Infrared studies were performed at room temperature with an energy transfer between 4000 - 400 cm-1. Controlled neutron irradiation allows to obtain different volume fraction and size of crystalline zones in EPDM. The obtained results are discussed and correlated with studies of differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy from where the changes in crystallinity in EPDM were indirectly studied. Inelastic neutron scattering studies were not appropriate for determining the changes in the crystallinity degree in neutron irradiated commercial EPDM. Query Extension Suggestions for Visual Query Systems Through Ontology Projection and Indexing
Ontology-based visual query formulation is a viable alternative to textual query editors in the Semantic Web domain for extracting data from structured data sources in terms of the skills and knowledge required. A visual query system is at any moment responsible for providing the user with query extension suggestions; however, suggestions leading to empty results are often not useful. To this end, in this article, we first present an approach for projecting OWL 2 ontologies into navigation graphs to be used for query formulation and then a solution where an efficient finite index is used to calculate non-ranked approximated extension suggestions for ontology-based visual query systems using navigation graphs. The results of our experiments suggest that one can efficiently project an ontology into a navigation graph, query it for running an interactive user interface, and suggest query extensions that do not lead to dead-ends
